Portland, Oregon – United PDX Soccer Club is excited to announce the hiring of Matt Broadhead as the new Senior Academy Director. Broadhead holds the USSF “B” License, is a former professional player, and has coached over 70 future collegiate players. With over 15 years of experience coaching and directing youth soccer clubs, Broadhead brings a wealth of experience to his new position.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to make the move to Portland Oregon (Soccer City USA) and become a part of United PDX! It’s an absolute honor for the chance to put my own personal stamp and develop the next generation of United PDX players in Oregon. The future is bright, the long-term goals are within reach, and I look forward to getting on the fields to work with our United PDX Soccer Family!” said Broadhead.
Matt Broadhead has been deeply involved in Utah Youth soccer and in the Western Region for nearly 20 years as both a player and coach. After college, Matt played in the MISL and USL for the Utah Freezz, San Diego Sockers, and Utah Blitzz. At the start of his youth coaching career, he helped create Inter FC Utah, which in 2015 merged with Avalanche Soccer Club to become Apex (boys side of Avalanche). Most recently, Matt was named US Youth Soccer Region IV Olympic Development Program Assistant Director. Prior to being named Assistant Director, he held the title of Region IV Team Head Coach since 2009.
United PDX Technical Director, Brandon McNeil had this to say about Broadhead, “I first met ‘Broady’ when I was at the University of Portland and recruited a number of his players. His players were always technically sound, contained a high Soccer IQ and were even better people off the field. To add him to the stable of directors and coaching staff continues to differentiate United PDX within the NW Region!”
Matt’s extensive experience centers upon developing players and coaches toward college soccer and beyond. His experience with helping players and families find the right fit within all levels of college soccer (D1, D2, D3, NAIA and NJCA) will be a massive addition to the United PDX membership, and having relationships with the coaches and knowledge of the schools is central in guiding players to an appropriate fit.
As Director, Matt will oversee all technical aspects of the Senior Academy.
Ryan Youngblood, United PDX Executive Director said, “we’ve hired a very talented and experienced leader in Matt Broadhead! He shares our passion and commitment to a player focused development philosophy. His wealth of international coaching experience, (2017 Gothia Cup Champions, Sweden) knowledge of every level of youth soccer, and leadership experience with Region IV ODP makes Broadhead a tremendous asset for United PDX.”
